North East India & Bhutan Tour Itinerary:

Day 01 – Arrive Paro
Meeting and greetings on arrival at Paro Airport and transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure to enjoy your first day in Dragon Kingdom. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 02 – Paro to Thimpu
Morning after breakfast begin your day with a drive through the Paro valley to see Drukgyel Dzong. enroute you see 7th century Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest monasteries in the Kingdom. from nearby, you can also get a view of one of the most reverend pilgrimage site of Buddhist world, the Taktsang (tiger's Nest) Lhakhang perched precariously on a sheer rock face. (visit closed to tourist) The Drukgyel Dzong is a historical ruin from where Bhutanese replied the Tibetan invaders. You will visit afternoon, you will take the unique two hour drive to Thimpu - the capital of Bhutan.

Day 03 – At Thimpu
Breakfast at hotel.
Morning tour the National library, the school of Thang paintings and traditional Medicine institute. Later visit handicrafts emporium to see the exquisite artistry on traditional crafts and textile and walk through the streets for shopping. After noon visit the memorial Chorten to his late majesty King Jigme Dorji Wanchuck and also visit Tashichho Dzong ( fortress of the glorious religion) built in 1641.
Overnight at hotel.

Day 04 – Thimpu to Wangd Phodrang
Morning after breakfast drive 3 hours over spectacular Dochula Pass (3100mts) will bring you to Punakha Dzong, once seat of old capital of Bhutan and winter residence of Je Khenpo (head Abbot). After lunch a short journey brings you to Wangdiphordrang Dzong on a hill over the junction of Puna Tsangchu and the Drangchu. Check in at hotel on arrival. Overnight hotel.

Day 05 – Wangdi Phordrang to Phuntsholing
Moring after breakfast drive around 5 to 6 hrs to Phuntsholing the border town, drive through some of the most beautiful terraced fields of Bhutan. The journey cuts across terrace climbing from 500 meters to 2400 meters in the middle Himalayas. Check in at hotel. Overnight at hotel.

Day 06 – Phuntsholing to Kalimpong
After breakfast in the morning leave to reach Kalimpong in 6 to 7 hours. Afternoon explore Kalimpong town and monastery nearby. Kalimpong is nestled in the foothills of the Himalayasand situated at an altitude of 1,250 meters. Overnight at hotel.

Day 07 – Kalimpong to Gangtok
Morning drive to Gangtok. Check in at hotel on arrival. Rest of the time at leisure. Gangtok : Capital city is surrounded by Lush Green Peddy fields and balanced on steep Mountain Slops. Gangtok region has the deeply felt presence of Stupas and mMnasteries. Gangtok today is like any other modern town and at the some time not much explored.
On arrival check in at hotel.

Day 08 – At Gangtok
Breakfast at hotel. Morning city sightseeing visiting the Enchey Monastery, The Residency for an excellent view of the mountains, the white Memorial hall, Tibetology Institute and Deer park.

Afternoon take a trip across the valley to visit the famous RUMTEK Monastery built by the 4th Chogyal -was damaged in a earthquake and was rebuilt. The 16th Gyalwa H.H. Karmapa after he escaped from Tibet, settled and lived in this monastery till completion of the Dharma Chakra centre nearby.
Return to Gangtok for overnight stay.

Day 09 – Gangtok to Darjeeling
Morning drive to Darjeeling and check in at the hotel. Rest of the afternoon is left free for independent activities. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 10 – At Darjeeling
Early morning drive to Tiger Hill to see Sunrise over Mount Kanchenjunga. On return visit Ghoom Monastery built in 1875 housing a huge statue of Lord Buddha. Afternoon city tour visiting the most beautiful Hill station in the Eastern India, which has the highest race course in the world, the Lablong village, the mountaineering institute and house of Tenzin Norgay the first Everest Hero.
Overnight at hotel.

Day 11 – Darjeeling to New Jalpaiguri to Guwahati – Overnight train
Morning free to relax or explore Darjeeling. Afternoon transfer to New Jalpaiguri Railway Station to board overnight train for Guwahati. Overnight on board.

Day 12 – arrive Guwahati & proceed to Shillong Meeting on arrival at Guwahati Raiway Station and proceed to Shillong by car (118 km / 3 and half hours due to Guwahati traffic). Arrive and check in Hotel. Overnight stay.

Day 13 - Shillong to Chirrapunjee to Laitkynsew
After breakfast at the hotel depart for Cherrapunjee 52 km via Smit. Smit is the cultural center of the Khyrim Syiemshim of the Khasi people. Here stands the Ingsad residence of the Queen of the Khyrim, where the timber-work done without using nails. The Queen mother is the high priest of Hima Khyrim ( read Khyrim state). She is the custodian of the rites and rituals of the Khasi religion. From there 10 km to Lytlyngkot to view megaliths. ; next a photo stop after 6 km a magnificent view of deep gorge at Mawkdok valley (alt 1820m), onward 11 km before Sohrarim (old Sohra i.e. Cherra i.e. old Cherapunjee alt 1680 m) view megaliths. Ram Krishna Mission was established in 1932, situated on the summit of a hill (2 km before reaching Cherrapunjee) it has an interesting museum with Khasi/Garo/Jaintia artefacts. By- passing the main Cherra bazaar, proceed to view the Nohkalikai Falls. Later return to main Cherra and view the Mawsmai limestone caves. The limestone cave is narrow and you can view stalactites from little inside the entrance. However for 50 metres it is electrified (generator run). A visit to the Met office is interesting to see rainfall records. Cherra's average annual rainfall is 1107 cm. (rainfall measured at 8.30 am to 11.30 am) and ( 5.30pm and 8.30pm ).

Overnight at Laitkynsew.

Day 14 - - Laitkynsew to Shillong
After breakfast have a casual walk to living bridge - a bridge made by tree roots and traditional Khasi villages. Then proceed to Shillong (68 km 2 hours) There will be time for a stop over at Elephant falls before returning for lunch. After lunch, some free time will be available before proceeding to the daily traditional archery competition where different Khasi clans participate. Bets are legal 1:80 odds (most lucrative odds in the world). Overnight stay at Hotel in Shillong.

Day 15 – Shillong to Nameri – 7 hours drive
Morning after an early breakfast leave for Nameri via Tezpur. The down hill drive is 88 km on hill road before you arrive the Assam valley plains. The drive to Nameri from Shillong involves drive through Rice Bowl and Jute fields, Hilly and plains, Tea Estates and Cross over Brahmaputra River.
Arrive and check into Eco Lodge on arrival.

Day 16 – At Nameri
Morning after breakfast trek around Nameri Park along the River for a 3 and half km. Return to south bank and Lunch at Eco Camp. Later proceed to boat embankment point around 8 km and come down by boat through snow-fed Himalayan river. Here you will have option of Angling on catch and release basis. Overnight stay at Eco Camp.

Day 17 – Nameri to Dirang - 6 hrs
Morning after an early breakfast leave for Dirang on the 167 km hill road. Your drive today will be probably along the best Forest cover region in Arunachal Afternoon Visit Dirang monastery, which is under the Nyingmapas sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Option of taking a guide and traveling 11 km to sight black neck crane which breeds in Tibet and Ladakh Overnight at the hotel.

Day 18 – Dirang for Tawang
Morning after breakfast at around 8.30 am proceed to Tawang by car crossing over 13700 feet Sela pass through Dirang River, Uphill road, Rhododendrons, Down hill drive, through Tawanchu River to finally reach Tawang. Check into the hotel / guest house on arrival.

Afternoon visit Tawang Monastery Monastery situated at an altitude of 10000 ft. Monastery was first found by Merak Lama Lodre Gyatso in 1680-1681. The walls were fortified in medieval times to withstand attacks from the Bhutanese. Now Monastery is occupied by around 300 monks of the Gellugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 19 - Tawang to Dirang
Morning after breakfast at hotel drive to Dirang driving through Monpa Village and have a small walk around Tawangchu River to Komebu where you will see boulder cave where Padmasambhava locally called Lopon Rimpoche (8 th Century AD, the learned monk instrumental in exporting Buddhism from India to Tibet) is said to have meditated at this spot. Also Gompa nearby where the chief deity is Avalokitesvara (Chendrezi). The Dalai Lama is the living Avalokitesvara. Afternoon drive to Dirang and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 20 - Dirang to Kaziranga 287 km.
Morning after relaxed breakfast at the hotel proceed to Kaziranga and check in at jungle lodge. Rest of the time free to relax. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 21 - At Kaziranga
Early morning have an Elephant ride 1 hour. After breakfast leave for the Western Range of the Park. Enjoy a game viewing in this range which has maximum short grass areas and is the optimum habitat for Rhino and Water Buffalo.

Return to the lodge for lunch. Afternoon another game viewing in Kaziranga Range - covers central region of the park and is an ideal introduction to the park and its ecology as the route passes through the entire spectrum of habitat types prevalent in the area. Possibility of sighting elephants and other mega herbivores. Yarding place of Swamp Deer. The process of plant succession can be observed at various seral stages. Birding in a wide range of habitats. Overnight at the lodge.

Day 22 – Kaziranga to Guwahati – 230 kms
Morning after breakfast at the resort proceed to Guwahati..Optional visit the Eastern range of the Park (Agaratuli) Range. Situated towards the eastern part of the park. The area is excellent for birding. Includes nesting of the globally threatened Pallas's Fish Eagle and a colony of Spot-billed Pelicans. Migrant waterfowl may be observed at Sohola Beel. Various woodland birds can be seen along the drive through very scenic Dillenia Swamp Forest. Elephants may be encountered, as well Water Buffalo and Swamp Deer. Takes 40 minutes to reach. Tourist route approximately 26 km. Arrive and check in at the hotel.

Day 23 - Depart Guwahati
Transfer to Airport or Railway Station in time to board flight for onward destination.
