Located in the north-east part of India, Imphal is the capital of Manipur state. The capital city had played pretty important role during the period of World War II; Imphal along with the Nagaland capital Kohima together was the turning point of Burma Campaign. Besides, the city has also faced a brutal terror attack supposedly carried out by Manipuri insurgents' warfare for a sovereign Manipur in the recent past.

Imphal is a district, which is divided into two parts namely Imphal East and Imphal West. However, the city is the administrative, economic, and cultural centre of the state Manipur. Most of the political, administrative, and economic activities are being administered from here.

War Cemeteries: It is the place of remembrance for all those soldiers who died during the Second World War.

Women's Market (Ima Keithel): It is the most popular place for the shopping local handicrafts and other items. The market area is divided into two sections the first one makes available the handloom products of the state and second one carrying the fruits, vegetables and other such kind of stuffs However, the market is largely popular for the colourful and beautiful clothing. Be careful before purchasing because in this market, you must have the skill of bargaining. The importance and uniqueness of the market is about 3000 'Imas' i.e. mothers who run the stalls.
Manipur State Museum: It is store house of the historical and tribal heritage and various other collections of the artefacts.
Manipur Zoological Gardens: You can see here the rare species such as Brow Antlered Deer.

By Road: NH 39 connects Imphal directly with Guwahati. You can take bus from Guwahati.
By Rail: Development of Railway track is under process.
By Air: Located at the distance of about 8 km, Imphal Tulihal Airport is well developed airport that connects it with the major cities of India including Kolkata, Guwahati, New Delhi, Aizawl, Silchar, Dimapur etc by daily or bi-weekly.
