Located in the southern part of the state, Mysore is one of the most popular and second most populated city of Karnataka. Geographically, the city is located at the base of the Chamundi Hill and covers an area of about 128 square km.

For a long time (until the Independence of India), the city Mysore was the capital of Mysore kingdom. Initially, the Kingdom had been ruled by Wodeyar dynasty but very soon Haidar Ali took the commands in his hands. After the death of Haidar Ali, his son Tipu Sultan became the ruler of the kingdom. Very soon he became popular king. However, finally the command of kingdom went into the hands of British force.

After the independence of India, Mysore city came directly under the administration of Karnataka state. Because of having long history and rich tradition, the city is also popular as the cultural centre and also for having heritage sites and historic museums. Today, Mysore is also known as 'cultural capital of state Karnataka.'

Mysore Tourism
Because of having various historical monuments and other natural landscapes, the city is one of the preferred tourists' attractions in South India. Interestingly, the Mysore Palace, paintings of Mysore style, Mysore silk saree, the Mysore Peta (it is a traditional silk turban) and many more make Mysore tourism very much fascinating. In addition, in the modern world, the software industry has increased proportionally; resultantly, Mysore became the second largest software service providing centre after Bangalore in Karnataka state.
