Located in the western part of the state, Patna is the capital of Bihar. It is one of the oldest historical cities of India; however, situated on the bank of Ganga River, the new settlement of the city is gradually spreading in a large area. Interestingly, Patna is one of the fastest growing cities of India and also it is ranked 2nd on the parameter of ease of starting business after Delhi by World Bank.

The ancient name of the city was Pataliputra, which is one of the oldest historical cities of the world. Surprisingly, throughout its establishment, the city Pataliputra remains inhabited centre. Primarily, it was the capital of Magadha Empire under the dynasties of Haryanka, Nanda, Mauryan, Sunga, Gupta, Pala and Suri dynasties. In addition, the city was the centre of rich culture, tradition, and the hub of fine arts learning. Above all, it was also the significant trading centre of its era.
