Located in south-east region of the state Andhra Pradesh, Tirupati is a popular religious place. Situated in the foothills of Eastern Ghats in Chittoor District, it is the largest city of Rayalaseema region. The historical religious place, Tirupati is known for its Venkateswara Swamy Temple, which is the richest temple in the region. Besides, Tirupati City has also various other temples, which are largely popular for their red wooden toys, copper and brass idols. Furthermore, Tirupati is also a major economical and educational hub in the southern part of the state Andhra Pradesh.

Tirupati is solely religious site with having dozens of temples, the most significant temples of Tirupait are:

• Venkateswara Swamy Temple: Located in the hills of Tirumala at an altitude of 853 meters, Venkateswara Swamy Temple is dedicated to Lord Venkateswara (Lord Vishnu). The temple lies about 20 kms north-west of Tirupati. Surprisingly, this temple attracts millions of pilgrims every year and hence it is the busiest pilgrimage site in the whole world. Evolved through various periods of time it is the one of the most protected shrines in the world.

• ISKCON Lord Krishna Temple: Located on the way of Tirumala Hills, with the splendid idols of Lord Narasimha Swamy, Lord Varaha Swamy and Krishna Leela, this temple is beautifully architected. The design and other ornamentation works have been done so skilfully that it fascinates thousands of people. Inside the temple, you can also see the painting works portraying the Lord Krishna’s life. In addition, there are ten pillars decorated in such a way that illustrate the ten avtar (incarnation) of Lord Krishna. If you go further, you can see the Lord Krishna surrounded by beautifully dressed Gopies. Above all, in the premises of temple, there is beautiful park, pond and fountain.

• Alamelu Mangamma Shrine: Located in Alamelumangapuram, it is also known as Thiruchanoor.

• Kodanda Rama Swamy Temple: Dedicated to Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshmana, it is located at the centre of the city.

• Lord Anjaneya Swamy: Located opposite of Kodanda Rama Swamy Temple, this temple is dedicated to Lord Anjaneya Swamy. • Srinivasa Mangapuram: Dedicated to Venkateswara Swamy’s wife Kalyana Venkatewara Swamy, it is a popular temple. As per the mythology, Venkateswara Swamy stayed here just after his marriage.

• Kapila Theertham: Located in beautiful surrounding, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parvati.

• Hanuman Temple: Located nearby the city, the temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman.

• Parasurameswara Temple: Located at the distance of about 20 kms from Tirupati, Parasurameswara Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is historical temple with much religious significance because it is believed that it is one of the earliest Linga which is housed in Garbhagriha of the temple.

• Lord Shiva Temple: The historic temple is located at Yogimallavaram.

• Avanakshamma Temple: It is located at the distance of about 42 kms from Tirupati.

• Sri Venugopala Swamy Temple: This temple is located at the distance of about 40 kms from Tirupati in Karvetinagaram.

• Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Temple: It is located at the distance of about 48 kms from Tirupati in Narayanavanam.

How to Reach??

By Road: With its four bus stands, the road network of the city is pretty developed; Tirupati is well connected with various major and minor towns and cities of state Andhara Pradesh. You can catch bus from Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Vizag and from Chennai.

By Rail: Tirupati has huge railway station with well maintained 10 platforms; and, it is well connected with various major towns of India.

By Air: Surprisingly, Tirupati has International Airport; however, at present, the domestic flights are more functional and directly linked with the cities like Hyderabad, Vizag, New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai etc.
