Located in the northern part of India, Chandigarh is one of the most significant places of India because it is a capital city of two states namely Punjab and Haryana. Besides, it is also a Union Territory and city. Interestingly, the name ‘Chandigarh’ is derived from an ancient temple i.e. Chandi Mandir dedicated to the Goddess Chandi; the literal meaning of the word is “The Fort of Chandi”.

More popularly recognized as one of the most beautiful cities of India with having fascinating gardens, the city was primarily architected by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Jane Drew and Maxwell Fry. It is the first planned city of India after the independence.

It is also referred to as The City of Garden due to its beautiful surroundings, central grid of gardens, each dedicated to different species of flora. The city Chandigarh is not only beautifully designed but it is also ranked number one because of having the highest per capita income. For the year 2010, the city is also declared as the “cleanest” city of India by national government study.

Geographically, located nearby the foothills of Siwalik Range, the city is surrounded by Patiala and Roopnagar of Punjab and Panchkula and Ambala of Haryana. The region has humid subtropical climate classified into three major seasons i.e. Winter, Summer and Monsoon.

Large part of Chandigarh is mainly covered by dense banyan and eucalyptus trees. However, cassia, asoka, mulberry and some other trees are also the part of the forested ecosystem. In addition, the city is surrounded by forests in which you can see various species of plants and animals as well, for example sambars, deers, barking deers, woodpeckers, peacocks, parrots and many more. Above all, Sukhna Lake located in the city is not only recreational area but also homes varieties of ducks and geese. The region also fascinates the migratory birds coming from Siberia and Japan during the winter time.
