Daman and Diu

Located in the western part of India, Daman and Diu is a Union Territory of India. Like Goa and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, primarily Daman and Diu was also Portuguese colony but after 15 years of independence, it is incorporated into the Republic of India. However, Portuguese had not accepted it until 1987; this year Goa became 25th state of India and then Daman and Diu became a separate union territory of India.

Geographically, Daman and Diu are two pieces of lands; Daman which is one of the districts of territory Daman and Diu, is located along Arabian Sea nearby the Valsad district of Gujarat on the east of Kalem River. Dmanganga River divides Daman district into two parts. Because of its coastal location, the climate of the region is remaining moderate throughout the year.

On the other hand, Diu is another district of territory, which is located in the Arabian Sea south of Kathiawar coast. In fact, Diu is an island south of Veraval Port of Gujarat. However, it is connected with the mainland of Gujarat with bridge.

Daman & Diu Tourism

The two districts of territory located distance apart from each other are nice place to visit. Where one district i.e. Daman is the part of mainland of coastal Gujarat; the second district Diu is a tiny island located south of Port of Veraval at the altitude of about 30 metres.. Interestingly, it is connected with the mainland of Gujarat with bridge. Small rivers and Arabian Sea landscapes provide tranquil environment, which are pretty refreshing for the tourists. Besides, Diu fort, a water house (the Panikotha) are also important attractions.

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Gangeshwar Temple is important shrine along with the churches of St. Paul and St. Francis of Assisi. Most of these religious places are located at the Jallandhar Beach. With the horseshoe shape, Nagoa Beach is another wonderful place to visit on the island. The territory is also famous for bird watchers; the major birds you can watch here are doves, pigeon, parrots etc. Above all, during the months of August to February, you can enjoy watching other migratory birds here.
