by Rabindranath Tagore, this center for learning promotes the
best in Bengali art and culture.
A days journey ex Calcutta would take you to the beautiful ensemble
of terracotta temples at Bishnupur, which is also known for its
Balucherry Sarees with fine motifs.
The cluster of mangrove-covered islands known as the Sunderbans
are home to the legendary Royal Bengal tiger, a ferocious man-eating
species. All transport within the reserve is by boat.
Darjeeling, a part Victorian holiday resort and part major tea-growing
center is also a popular haunt with holidaymakers.
