    Located in the western part at the coast of Arabian Sea, Goa is the smallest state by area and fourth smallest state by population. However, the state is surrounded by Maharashtra to the north and by Karnataka by east and south. Surprisingly, the state is ranked number one in terms of the GDP and hence it is the richest state of India; in addition, it is also ranked first for its infrastructure and for the best quality of life.

    History of Goa - Goa sheltered the Portuguese people about 450 years ago from now; hence, it was a Portuguese colony. Interestingly, the older city Margao still represents the Portuguese culture. Though, the capital of Goa is Panaji but the largest city of state is Vasco da Gama.

    Geographically, the state is located in konkan region and it is separated by Western Ghats from the Deccan Plateau. It has about 101 km coastline. The major rivers that flow across the state are Mandovi, Zuari, Chapora etc. Interestingly, most of the rivers of Goa are the busiest rivers in India and total navigable length of Goa rivers is more than 250 km. Though, Goa has Tropical Monsoon Climate but it is featured with hot and humid because of its coastal location.

    Tourism in Goa

    Distinguished for its pristine and frisky beaches, world heritage architecture and places of worship, Goa is visited by millions of international and national tourists every year. Because of its location in the Western Ghats range, it also has rich flora and fauna; interestingly, it is classified as a biodiversity hotspot.
