Buddhist Tour in India - India houses various Buddhist sites in cities like Patna, Varanasi etc. Bodh Gaya is one of the famous religious sites and place of pilgrimage associated with Mahabodhi Temple Complex. Lumbini in Nepal is a pilgrimage site, also known as the birthplace of Lord Buddha. Lumbini has a vast history associated with the life journey of Lord Buddha.

Destination : Patna, Vaishali, Nalanda, Rajgir, Bodhgaya, Varanasi, Kushinagar, Lumbini, Saravasti and Lucknow

Buddhist Tour in India - Day Wise Itinerary

    Day 1 : Arrive Patna

    Met upon arrival at Patna Railway Station or Airport and transfer to the hotel. Afternoon proceed for an excursion trip to visit Vaishali. Vaishali is a religious place for Buddhist as this is the place where Lord Buddha preached his last sermon and announced his approaching Nirvana. Visit Buddhist stupas still holding urns containing ashes of Buddha, also visit Ashoka Pillar erected by King Ashoka. Overnight at the hotel at Patna. .

    Day 2 : Patna to Bodhgaya via Nalanda and Rajgir

    Morning after breakfast proceed to Bodhgaya enroute visit Nalanda – Place where world's oldest university was founded in the 5th century. See Buddhist monasteries and temples with impressive Buddhist & Hindu images. Continue on to Rajgir – Magadha Empire Capital till 6th Century. Lord Buddha spent many years in Rajgir . Also visit Gridhrakula, Sapataparni cave, Ajatsatru fort and Venuvana.. Arrive Bodhgaya by late afternoon or evening. Check into the hotel on arrival..

    Day 3 : At Bodhgaya

    Full day exploration of Bodhgaya including Bodhi tree, Satabodhi temple, Japanese and Tibetan monasteries and Magadha university museum. Overnight at the hotel.

    Day 4 : Bodhgaya to Varanasi

    After an early breakfast leave for Varanasi in around 6 hours time by car. Arrive Varanasi and transfer to hotel. Afternoon excursion to Sarnath, the principle centre of Buddhism. It was here around 530 B.C that Buddha preached his 1st sermon after gaining enlightenment. Also visit Dhamekh and Dharmarajika stupas. Evening visit River Ganges to attend closing ceremony araati at Ganges Ghat.

    Day 5 : Varanasi to Kushinagar

    Early in the morning proceed to River Ganges for boat ride at dawn and see the beautiful sunrise at Ganges and people having holy dips. On your return visit to temples and Benaras Hindu University. Late morning drive to Kushinagar and check into the hotel on arrivl. Afternoon visit Ramabha stupa and Natha Kumarka Kot.

    Day 6 : Kushinagar to Lumbini

    Morning after an early breakfast leave by car for Lumbini (in Nepal) – Birth place of Lord Buddha.Tour the Japan / Srilanka Buddhist center, Mahanirvana Temple and monasteries. Have some relaxed time in the evening for self exploration. Overnight at the hotel.

    Day 7 : Lumbini to Saravasti

    Morning after breakfast drive to saravasti and check into the hotel on arrival. Afternoon visit visit the Ruins of Anciet city of Saravasti and Jetavana Monastery. 

    Day 8 : Saravasti to Lucknow to Delhi

    Transfer to the Lucknow Airport to board flight for Delhi and connect your home bound flight. Bon voyages.
