Tour Description

Located in the north-east part of India in the Eastern Himalayan Region, Sikkim is fortified state of India. It shares its international boundary with three countries i.e. Bhutan in the east, Tibet (an autonomous region in China) in the north and Nepal in the west. However, it shares its state boundary with West Bengal in the south. The state is entirely located in the great Himalayan region hence it has wonderful landscapes. In terms of population, Sikkim is the least populated state of India and in terms of area; it is second smallest state of India. Since, the state is located at different altitudes hence its climate varies from subtropical to alpine. Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak of the world is located on the border of Sikkim and Nepal. Teesta is the Major River of the state.

Sikkim Bird Watching Tour Itinerary

    Day 1 : Arrive Bagdogra or New Jalpaiguri Railway Station

    Meeting on arrival and transfer to Darjeeling. Arrive and transfer to the hotel. Overnight.

    Day 2 : Darjeeling

    Morning after breakfast leave for Kalimpong and check into the hotel. Late tour to visit Zandokpalri Phodrang Monastery, Deolo Hill, Nursery. Evening walk tour the town.
    Overnight at the hotel.

    Day 3 : Darjeeling to Kalimpong – Drive

    Morning after breakfast leave for Kalimpong and check into the hotel. Late tour to visit Zandokpalri Phodrang Monastery, Deolo Hill, Nursery. Evening walk tour the town.
    Overnight at the hotel.

    Day 4 : Kalimpong to Lava

    Morning after breakfast leave for Lava – a short drive. Arrive and check into the lodge. Later visit Neora Vallay National Park for bird watching. Neora Valley National Park is inhabitant and houses a number of species of birds like Scaly Breasted Wren Babbler, Golden Brested Fulvetta, Coral Billed Scimitar Babbler, Magpie, Hill Partridge, Rufus Throated Partridge, Cutia, Maroon Oriole, Long billed Thrush, Dusky Thrush, Golden Bush Robin, Spotted Laughing thrush, Eye browed Thrush, Chestnut Thrush, Wedge tailed Green Pigeon, Satyr Tragopan, Speckled Wood Pigeon, Ashy Wood Pigeon, Chestnut headed Tesia, Slat belled Tesia, Russer Bush Warbler, Lesser Cuckoo, Crimson breasted Woodpecker, Lesser Yellow nape, Emerald Dove, Common Rose finch, Red Crossbill, White spectacled Warbler, Pygmy Blue flycatcher, Blue fronted Robin, Long tailed Broadbill, Mountain Bulbul and Orange bellied Leaf bird etc.
    Overnight at the lodge.

    Day 5 : Lava

    Whole day bird watching at Neora Valley National Park.
    Overnight at the lodge.

    Day 6 : Lava to Ravanda

    Morning after breakfast lave for Ravanda enroute bird watching at Teesta, Rangeet Valley and Damthang. The birds found in the region are Great Barbet, Greater Yellow nape, Red Jungle Fowl, River Lapwing, Green billed Malkoha, White throated Kingfisher, Crested Kingfisher, Chestnut headed Bee eater, Red vented Bulbul, Green Billed Malkhoa, Dollarbird, Black winged Cuckoo, Black Bulbul, Golden fronted Leaf bird, Orange bellied Leaf bird, Green Magpie, Himalayan Swiftlet, and oriental White Eye Common Iora, Indian Roller, Dollarbird, Black backed Wagtail, Small Minivet, Scarlet Minivet, Black crested Bulbul, White cheeked Bulbul, , Blue Rock Thrush, Chestnut bellied Rock Thrush, White capped Redstart, Hair crested Drongo, Eurasian Buzzard, Eurasian Kestrel, etc.
    Overnight at the lodge at Ravanda.

    Day 7 : Ravanda to Pemayangtse

    Early morning visit menam Forest for bird watching where you will see a number of species of birds. Later leave for Pemayangtse and check into the hotel.

    Day 8 : Pemayangtse

    Enjoy visiting pemayangtse Monastery and Sangacholing Monastry while enjoying mountain views and birds encountered like Lesser Yellow nape, Grey Treepie, Striated Bulbul, Mountain Hawk Eagle, Black Eagle, Himalayan Griffon, Indian Cuckoo, Grey headed and Bay Woodpecker, White throated Needletail,Great Barbet, Rufous capped and black chinned Babbler, Hoary throated and Rusty fronted Barwing, Striated,Grey sided and Greater Necklaced Laughing thrush.
    Overnight at the hotel.

    Day 9 : Pemayangste to Yuksom via Khicheparli Lake

    Morning after breakfast drive Yuksom via watching some varieties of birds around Khicheparli Lake. Birds you will encounter today are likely Baer's pochard, Speckled wood pigeon, migrant ducks, black necked grebe, Emerald Cuckoo, Blue winged , Scaly Laughing thrush, whitenaped Yuhina etc. Check into the hotel on arrival. Evening walk around Yuksom.
    Overnight at the lodge.

    Day 10 : Yuksom

    Full day bird watching in and around Yuksom.
    Overnight at the lodge.

    Day 11 : Yuksom to Gangtok

    Morning after breakfast at the hotel drive to Capital city Gangtok through semi tropical forest, cardamom plantation and small villages. Arrive and check in at the hotel for overnight stay.
    Rest of the day at leisure.
    Overnight at the hotel.

    Day 12 : Gangtok

    Morning after breakfast at the hotel tour of Rumtek Monastery, Tibetology & Do Drul Chorten. Afternoon visit Enchey Monastery and cottage Industry. Overnight at the hotel.
    Overnight at the hotel.

    Day 13 : Gangtok / Bagogra Airport

    Morning after breakfast at the hotel transfer to Bagdogra Airport to board flight for next destination.
