Why Dwarka is sacred
Dwarka is revered as the ancient capital that Lord Krishna built after leaving Mathura, and is one of both the Char Dham and Sapta Puri (seven sacred cities). The Dwarkadhish Temple, dedicated to Krishna in his role as king, anchors the town's spiritual life.

A brief history
Marine archaeological surveys off the coast have uncovered submerged structures that researchers associate with the legend of a city swallowed by the sea after Krishna's departure. The current five-storey temple, supported by 72 pillars, dates back roughly 2,200 years with later renovations through the 16th century.
